I’m writing a presentation on shortcodes for #wordcampuk and having major hassles with the embed shortcode. So far I’ve had 6 different results using exactly the same shortcode. This appears to be contradictory to Einstein’s famous quote.
Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.
The shortcode shown below [ embed width=”360″]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH228-XQ-A8[/embed ] appears to work here… but with the wrong dimensions.
My new quote, to paraphrase Einstein, but reversing the meaning is
Insanity is caused by using the embed shortcode and expecting to get the same result as you did a while ago.
Einstein had another bit of sound advice
A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.
Today I’ve decided to be wise. I’ll use my [bw_video] shortcode from now on! BTW: [bw_video] is available from oik-plugins
Post Post Scriptum
A note for the wise… I couldn’t stop myself investigating; I found some solutions that help a bit.
- Choosing a video that actually exists helps; probably something to do with the authorisation code.
- Choosing dimensions that YouTube is happy with also helps.
- Don’t mess with double square brackets around the embed shortcode
What this means is, that if you click on the links in the [nivo] slider then the posts/pages probably DO appear. Now back to the problem in hand… does the embed shortcode work in a custom post type or not?
