On August 16th last year, having played 600 games I reached 97% Win rate on foodlewordle.io. My current and max streak had both reached 172. That’s because I knew the answers for every day.
In foodlewordle.io – getting to 98% I calculated that I’d reach 98% on the 13th April this year.
That was on the assumption that I’d get foodlewordle right every day.
Well, I thought I had got it right every day, but something went wrong on the 22nd/23rd of January. My max streak had reached 330 but my current streak had reset to 1. I’d played 759 games. This meant that I hadn’t got foodlewordle right every day. So I wouldn’t reach 98% until a day after my original target date. But then it went wrong again. Either I failed to play it the day after we got back from Oz, or something happened when I was replacing my Australian SIM card with my UK one.
It wasn’t until Tuesday the 15th of April that I reached 98%; actually just 97.5%, but it rounds up.
Calculation of 98%
Here’s the calculation to show that 97.5% has been rounded to 98%.
Played = 840
Win = 422 + 38 + 119 + 132 + 76 + 32 = 819
Win % = ( 819 / 840 ) * 100 = 97.5
which rounds up to 98%Hold on! Those are the same figures as I’d calculated in August! Which means that there were actually two days where I hadn’t played the game, but 240 where I had, and got the answer right. The more observant of you will notice that on 7 occasions I’d incorrectly typed the correct answer on the first go, but recovered on the second attempt.
So when might I reach 99%?
Formula for 99% is
( win + n ) / ( played + n ) = 985 / 1000
( win + n ) * 1000 = 985 * ( played + n )
( 819 + n ) * 1000 = 985 * ( 840 + n )
819000 + 1000n = 827400 + 985n
1000n - 985n = 827400 - 819000
15n = 8400
n = 560Check
819 + 560 = 1379
840 + 560 = 1400
1379 / 1400 = 0.985
ie 99%560 days from Tuesday 15th April is Tuesday 27th October 2026.
I would probably give up way before then… I had intended to continue to attempt to break my streak of 330. … But now I realise it was a user error ( failure to play), not a system glitch.
Well, that’s possibly two fewer things to do each day, but perhaps I’ll keep going in the hope that sometime in the future the answers for foodlewordle.io, food-le.com and Wordle are all the same. I know that foodlewordle.io and food-le.com will share the same words. So it will be a super coincidence that on the day that happens Wordle will also use the same word.
