• H2GD Part 36: Not waking from Windows 8 sleep

My new laptop has been misbehaving. I think it must be attention seeking behaviour. When I go away from it without first saying “C U later” or “back soon”, and I’m away for more than a minute or two it seems to put itself into sleep/hibernate mode but won’t restart. It effing annoying and I’m at a loss troubleshooting the problem. I can’t find a report of a solution to the problem that I feel applies to this machine.

    Event Log messages

Here are some messages from the event log. Last few before I hit the power on/off button

Event 11, TxR init phase for hive \??\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy3\Windows\system32\config\SYSTEM (TM: {c02dbffc-7c81-11e3-be7d-3065ec1a1469}, RM: {c02dbffb-7c81-11e3-be7d-3065ec1a1469}) finished with result=0xC00000A2 (Internal code=7).
Event 11,... similar but for DRIVERS
Event 16,The access history in hive \??\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy3\Users\default\ntuser.dat was cleared updating 43 keys and creating 8 modified pages.
Event 7040, The start type of the Windows Modules Installer service was changed from demand start to auto start

First group of messages after restart

Event 12, The operating system started at system time ‎2014‎-‎01‎-‎14T13:42:12.498472800Z.
Event 20, The last shutdown's success status was false. The last boot's success status was true.

Error 6008, The previous system shutdown at hh:mm:ss on dd/mm/yyyy was unexpected.
    ⋮
Error 41 (Critical), The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Note: Not sure where it gets its shutdown time for Error 6008 but it appears to be about a minute and a half after the last 7040 message.

Looking at Administrative Events AFTER the reboot after the rather exciting, but fairly useless

Error 7000, The Update Jump Flip service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

    then

Warning 219, The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#.

there are a load of Warning Event 532 messages ending with a Warning 507
