Thirteen years ago I published my first plugin (oik) on wordpress.org.
Whereas the total downloads of oik now exceeds two hundred thousand, my latest plugin, Field block for ACF PRO, has only been downloaded just over 800 times. It took a year for oik to reach one thousand downloads. I’m hoping the new one might get there a bit quicker.

Some comments…
- The total downloads reached the half a million mark in August 2023.
- oik continues to be the most popular of my plugins, with over 1,000 updates soon after each release.
- oik-privacy-policy is still activated on approximately 1,000 sites even though it isn’t actually necessary once the Privacy policy page has been created.
- I still don’t know why people are running oik-weightcountry-shipping. It clearly states it’s been replaced by oik-weight-zone-shipping.
- At least after updating both plugins oik-weight-zone-shipping did get more downloads.
- While my single block plugins ( uk-tides, sb-chart-block, sb-children-block ) aren’t all that popular, up to 50% of the sites where they’re installed have updated to the latest versions.
- SB Chart Block reached 5000 downloads in August 2024.
- My latest plugin, Field block block for ACF PRO, is a single block plugin dependent upon Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) PRO.
- Perhaps I should consider releasing a few more of my single block plugins.
- oik-magnetic-poetry – to write magnetic poetry refrigerator messages
- SB Parent Block – display a link to the parent post
- SB Post Edit Block – to allow direct editing of the post by authorised users
