On 13th November, 2013 I attended my first PHP Hants session. I gave a talk entitled
Probably doing it wrong
Subtitled, “One man’s experiences with PHP and WordPress” the theme of the talk was meant to be:
developing dynamic documentation for WordPress plugins, APIs and hooks.
In it, I attempted to explain how I’d gone about documenting the oik suite of WordPress plugins, focussing on the effort to produce dynamic documentation for over 2500 APIs.
The presentation itself was a bit of a nightmare, both for the audience and myself. I was expecting to be able to give the presentation whilst driving the website. Standing with a microphone, with my back to the “slides”, and having someone else drive the screen was as uncomfortable for me as it was for the audience.
PS
During the preparation of the talk I enhanced a number of my plugins and also developed and created the API and hook documentation for TWO brand new plugins.
- foobar – the world’s least amazing plugin – was mentioned; it was used to create the examples.
- smart-bbboing – localize your website in the bbboing language – never surfaced.
The presentation, with a few speaker notes, most of which I failed to use, is available at: PHPHants – Nov 2013 – developing dynamic documentation for WordPress plugins, APIs and hooks
