For my purposes [bw_video] beats the pants off the embed shortcode any day. Well, it used to, until I tried viewing it on my iPhone.

For a number of different reasons I believe that my [bw_video] shortcode, which is now responsive and therefore ignores the width and height attributes shown here,

or the Jetpack equivalent

beats the pants off the embed shortcode any day.

When I first wrote this post in 2012, using shortcodes was a much better way to create content than attempting to write the code using HTML tags. This was many years before anyone even thought about the Gutenberg block editor. I’ve just updated the oik-video plugin to support PHP 8.1 and PHP 8.2 but I doubt I’ll be using it much longer as the block editor provides several variations of the Video block.

The advantage of the Video block ( which in this case is the YouTube variation ) is that you can see the video in the editor.
